Samson and Delilah
Arthur painted several meaty Samson struggles. Samson was a loner,
not a team player. Samson defeated his enemies, even at the expense of
his life. This reminds me of a poem Arthur liked by Rumi, a 13th Century
poet:
- Judith M. Sussman
“The price of kissing is your life -
Now my loving is running toward my life shouting
What a bargain! Let’s buy it.”
Samson was the last of the great judges who led pre-monarchic Israel.
He was to deliver Israel from the Philistines. However, he loved two
Philistine women, the last of which he told the secret of his strength,,
which was his undoing.
