Gideon's Night
Gideon was known for acting against the prevalent idolatrous beliefs and oppression. The recognized messenger of Yahweh commands a timorous Gideon to go and deliver Israel. His first act is to tear down his father’s altar to Baal and build an altar to Yahweh. With Yahweh, not Baal, confirmed as Gideon’s god, the scene is set for battle. The victory over the Mideanites is wholly the work of the divine warrior.
